see details >

Today, you will have the chance to enjoy Nairobi at your leisure. There are many opportunities to take in the local culture. Try the traditional food and coffee, or explore some of the spectacular landscapes. You may also choose to add on a wildlife tour of Nairobi, where you can visit the Nairobi Elephant Orphanage, see the Giraffe Center, and explore Karen Blixen’s home from the movie "Out of Africa."

After lunch, you may continue to explore the city at your leisure. If you’re looking to delve more into the culture of Kenya, you may add on a tour of a local coffee farm. Kenyan coffee has become very popular and is exported to countries around the world.

Accommodation: Leon Villas Guest House or similar

Day 3: Nairobi - Maasai Mara, Kenya
see details >

Today, you will make our way to Maasai Mara Game Reserve. You will be picked up at your hotel, and you will drive to your camp (6 hours), arriving just in time for lunch and free time.

Later in the afternoon, you will depart for our first game drive. The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is characterized by its vast acacia-dotted plains cut by ox-bow lakes, spectacular escarpments where scenes from the movie "Out of Africa" was filmed. The animals of the Maasai Mara are the star of the show, providing drama and intrigue against a backdrop of spectacular scenery. You might notice a Masai Moran standing on one foot herding hundreds of cow or shepherding goats and sheep holding a single stick or a spear.

Accommodation: Semadep Mara Camp or similar

Day 4: Maasai Mara - Lake Nakuru, Kenya
see details >

You will enjoy breakfast at your camp, then you will board the safari vehicle and drive overland to Lake Nakuru National Park (6.5 hours). Lake Nakuru is a shallow alkaline lake famous for its flamingo population (estimated to be more than a million) — so this locale is referred to as a ‘Bird's Paradise’ by bird watchers. This park is also home to a substantial rhino population. You'll arrive in time for lunch and an early afternoon nap.

Depart for an afternoon game viewing, and return back to the camp before sunset. In addition to the flamingoes, the lake draws more than 450 species of birds. There are no elephants in the park, but the other Big Five species can be spotted, including tree-climbing lions. You also might spot arge animals that live in the dry land surrounding the lake — such as Rothschild giraffe, cape buffaloes, waterbucks, gazelles, leopards, and primates.

Accommodation: Kambi Amani or similar

Day 5: Lake Nakuru - Amboseli National Park, Kenya
see details >

After breakfast, you'll depart by road (6.5 hours) and return to Nairobi, then proceed overland through Kamba land dotted with circular houses, as well as Masai land. Eventually, you'll arrive at Amboseli National Park, situated at the foot of the highest mountain in Africa. (In fact, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world!) You will arrive at the camp in time for lunch and some afternoon relaxation.

This afternoon, you'll have the opportunity to relax at the lodge or add on a game drive. The park has large herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, giraffes, lions, and many other animals and birds, all of which are attracted to this park due to its permanent supply of water from Mount Kilimanjaro’s melting snow. The elephant population in Amboseli is one of the few that has been able to live undisturbed, and these elephant families have been studied by world-renowned researcher Cynthia Moss.

Accommodation: AA Lodge Amboseli or similar

Day 6 & 7: Amboseli National Park, Kenya
see details >

During these two full days in Amboseli National Park, you'll spend your time searching for big cats and elephants.

What's more, during your early morning game drives, you will have a golden opportunity to photograph the highest peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in beautiful lighting.

Of course, Amboseli National Park is also the home of the famed Maasai people, those tall, proud nomadic warriors whose legendary prowess in battle and single-handed acts of bravery in fights with wild animals have spread across the world. You'll visit their village to see the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. You'll also have the chance to visit a few villagers at home and learn about their social structures and traditions. The Maasai people live in close harmony with the environment and the animals that surround them.

Accommodation: AA Lodge Amboseli or similar

Day 8: Nairobi, Kenya / USA
see details >

After breakfast, you'll pack your bags, check out, and make the three-hour trek back to Nairobi, where you will catch your flight home.
