Spend your days diving with whale sharks and snorkeling with manta rays in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, along the Mozambique coast—one of the best places in the world to see these peaceful creatures. Whale Sharks are known for their gentle yet playful nature, and swimming alongside them is sure to be an unforgettable experience! You’ll also meet local people, visiting their villages and immersing yourself in their culture, and explore Bazaruto National Park—all with camera in hand!

Day 1: Maputo

Welcome to Mozambique! The expert guide will be awaiting your arrival in Maputo, the country’s flourishing capital, where we’ll get acquainted with each other and East Africa. We’ll start our adventure exploring one of the largest, most colorful markets in all of East Africa, observing the still-evident Portuguese heritage found in the buildings and cuisine, and photographing the cultural crossroads in this unassuming city. Afterwards, we’ll relax at our accommodation in preparation for our next destination.

From Maputo we’ll fly to the village of Tofo Beach. After arriving, we’ll have time to dive into the warm, emerald green waters and dine on a traditional dinner in our beach villas, watching as the sun dips below the horizon.

We’ll immerse ourselves in the splendor of this seaside community, reveling in the vibrant sights of this unique corner of Mozambique. While in Tofo, we’ll come face-to-face with whale sharks, dolphins, turtles, and manta rays, as we snorkel through rainbow-colored coral reefs and schools of neon fish. We’ll also have the rare opportunity to spend time with local families, learning to cook in their homes, follow their daily routines, and intimately photograph their lives. Afterwards, we’ll cool off with an afternoon surf lesson followed by a star photography lesson—pointing our cameras up towards the Milky Way, shining above the Indian Ocean.

Day 5: Vilanculos & Bazaruto National Park

From Tofo, we’ll travel 4 hours by private bus up the picturesque coast to the vibrant seaside village of Vilanculos, which will serve as our home base for the next few days as we explore the sprawling Bazaruto National Park. We’ll arrive in time for an afternoon walk through the village with cameras in hand before settling into our accommodation. We’ll attend an evening photo lesson followed by a cozy campfire on the shore.

We’ll dive right into the unbelievable cultural and natural wonders of Bazaruto National Park. Get a rare look into the thriving communities dotting the archipelago, learning about their ocean-adapted traditions and way of life. We’ll photograph fishermen at sunrise, farmers harvesting oysters, and the meeting of Portuguese and native culture found while walking the sunlit streets. We’ll also spend plenty of time on the sparkling azure waters; learn to sail a traditional dhow and snorkel through the pristine coral reefs, encountering the dugong—known as “the lady of the sea.” The thrill-seekers of the group will have the option of a helicopter ride above the archipelago, looking down at the distant sandbars, turquoise waters, and white shores dotted with colorful villages.

Our unforgettable island adventure has sadly come to an end! After a sunshine filled week of sand and surf, we’ll head back to Maputo for our flights back home.
