Join us on a small group tour to the Mexican Yucatan. On this tour, you will immerse yourself in the country’s culture, history, and cuisine. Discover the history of the Mayan people with a guided tour of the ancient city of Izmal, swim in a beautiful cenote, and learn to cook several local dishes. Welcome to the beautiful city of Merida! This incredible destination has been the cultural and historical capital of the Yucatan peninsula for centuries. After checking into your hotel this afternoon,you will have the opportunity to explore the neighborhood at your leisure. Feel free to browse one of the many shops that line the historic colonial streets of this city, or explore a number of small food stands and shops that can be found seemingly on every corner! In the evening, enjoy a delicious welcome dinner at a local restaurant with the group.

Day 2: Merida Culinary Tour and Class

This morning enjoy a delicious breakfast at your hotel accommodation before setting out for an incredible culinary adventure! Today we will depart with our guide to visit the culinary hot spots of Merida - we will wander through the local markets and learn about selecting the very best ingredients. After our market tour, we will depart for a traditional cooking class experience with a local chef and learn to craft the delicate flavors of Merida.
Enjoy a relaxing evening at your hotel and dinner at a nearby local restaurant. For those interested, we can arrange an afternoon visit to a traditional Hacienda and see how plant fibers are converted into rope and other useful materials.

Day 3: Izamal & Cenote Cuzama

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before setting out to explore the ancient city of Izamal with a guided tour. As you enter Izamal, take note of the vibrant hues of yellow many of the buildings and structures are colored, in addition to the beautiful colonial cobblestone streets. We will break briefly for lunch before proceeding to one of the more popular cenotes in the area – Cenote Cuzama. Be sure to bring your swimsuit, as this beautiful cenote is a popular spot for many travelers to visit and swim in the turquoise blue water. Following your relaxing swim at the cenote we will return to Merida.
Enjoy a relaxing evening at your hotel and dinner at a nearby local restaurant. For those interested, we can arrange an evening market tour to visit some of the popular evening spots of Merida (need a group of at least 4 to operate)

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at your hotel before embarking on another amazing culinary experience. During your second cooking class, we will explore how to make a variety of seasonal and traditional Mexican dishes. Your instructor will show you the best way to create flavors, distinct to this region of Mexico as you embark on a culinary journey.
After the class, enjoy a couple hours of free time before a guided tour of the major historical sites in downtown Merida, from ancient Spanish colonial structures, to the best monuments – this will be an enriching cultural education.

The expedition cost includes including boutique accommodation for all nights, all transport during the expedition, lecture and instruction materials from our expert guides, three meals per day, and all activities as listed on the itinerary. International Airfare is not included.
+ What should I bring for my trip?
We always recommend packing as light as possible; however, the specific requirements for your tour will vary widely depending on where and when you are traveling. Prior to each trip, we provide a suggested packing list. The checklist is tour-specific and based upon the experience of our ground staff.
+ How many people can join a tour?
We keep our group sizes low so you have the freedom to move around and get involved with your surroundings, as well as benefit from more personal attention from our local guides. This intimate size ensures that your group will not crowd your experience. You can expect a maximum of 12 travelers, but the average group size is typically much smaller.
+ What vaccinations should I get for my trip?
It's important that you receive the most accurate and up-to-date travel health information for the country you will be visiting. The only one qualified to provide you with this advice is your family physician or a specialist from a Travel Health clinic. It's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to join a tour after it has begun. It is possible to leave a tour early; however, you will be responsible for your own arrangements from the moment you decide to leave the tour. If you feel this may be necessary, please consult an Acanela specialist before you book your trip.
