Best Places to Travel in March

Have some Spring travel fever? We have you covered for the entire month of March for many years to come. March is perfect to explore these places before the summer heat and the influx of tourism hits. Check out these destinations below to help get you through the annual season change slump:

Mexico City

Mexico City is Mexico’s largest city and capital. This wildly exciting destination offers amazing food and ancient architecture. March is the ideal time to visit since the beautiful purple jacaranda trees are in bloom throughout the city. Additionally, airfare prices are some of the cheapest of the year during this time. The weather tends to be great for strolling as you navigate this iconic city. Check out the Zócalo, also known as Plaza de la Constitución during your visit. This is Mexico City’s main plaza and is filled with cultural, religious and social history. In the plaza you will find Palacio Nacional. This is one of the country’s main government buildings and where you can find many murals to check out.

Morocco

Throughout March in Morocco you’ll find pleasant daytime temperatures and lots of sun before the summer heat hits. Head to Morocco and enjoy glamping in the Sahara Desert and the busy markets in Marrakech. March offers a few special events in Morocco such as the Marrakech International Festival of Dance. Check out the many master classes, workshops and shows offered. Additionally, the Marrakech Book Festival happens annually in March and features all sorts of literary events such as author chats, book sales and workshops.

Patagonia, Chile

It is well known that the first half of March is the ideal time to visit Patagonia, Chile. This time is the tail end of summer in Chile, meaning that tourism is starting to slow down but the odds of the weather still being nice is high. Check out Tierra Patagonia in Torres del Paine National Park for some architecturally stunning views. It is so remote it will make you feel like you’re at the edge of the world.

Fernando de Noronha Island, Brazil

Head to this archipelago for some stunning natural landscapes. This area has strict environmental regulations that limits the number of visitors at a given time. The lack of tourists leaves the majority of this place undeveloped compared to larger cities in Brazil such as Rio. March is a great time to plan your visit, especially if you plan on scuba diving. You should plan on having excellent visibility conditions with the calm and clear waters as the heavy rain doesn’t typically hit until May. If flying in, Recife (RCE), is one of the closest gateways to Fernando De Noronha.

Dublin, Ireland

Take a trip to Ireland’s capital for the ultimate March bucket list experience. What better place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than Ireland? Watch the city come to life with the multi-day festival leading up to the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. Expect elaborate costumes, lively music, overflowing pints and packed pubs. Don’t forget your green for good luck! Pay homage to the famous Irish tradition by perfecting your pour at the Guinness Storehouse.

Cape Town, South Africa

Head to Cape Town in March for some dry and warm weather. These last few days of summer are perfect for hiking up Table Mountain for some stellar city views. Other popular activities include catching a film at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens or heading on a safari to spot some wildlife. Wine enthusiasts should take a trip outside of the city to catch the harvest season and do some tastings in Constantia, also known as the oldest winemaking region in all of the Southern Hemisphere. Looking for more of an adrenaline rush? Try out skydiving for some more city views from above or check out cage-diving with great white sharks. For music fans, Cape Town hosts its annual international jazz festival every March. Yearly it rolls out to be the largest music event in sub-Saharan Africa.

Nepal

March is an excellent time to visit Nepal as this is when the country begins warming up and many hiking trails open. While you can expect snow high up in the mountains, the lower trails should be good to go. A perk of visiting in March is having longer days but less tourists to worry about clogging up the trails. If you are debating when in March to head over to Nepal, aim for the second half of the month when temperatures are higher but you still won’t have to worry about monsoons yet. Choose to hike to Everest base camp, one of the nation’s most popular treks. While Everest may be the most famous, Nepal has many incredible lesser-known natural wonders to be discovered. While the Gokyo and the Renjo La route isn’t as popular, it still offers stunning alternative views of the Everest range. Lastly, you can’t visit Nepal in March without participating in the Holi festival. Join locals in the annual colorful celebration by dancing, singing and throwing vibrant powder at each other. This rainbow celebration is in honor of the coming spring season and the triumph of good over evil.
