Your Favorite Clothes Only
Next up, your wardrobe. How will you get all of it from one country to another? The truth is, you’ll have to downsize your clothing collection by a lot, in most cases. It will be cheaper and make your life easier to travel with less.

Don’t forget that the journey ahead will be a long one. In some cases, it can take days to travel from the U.S. to an international destination. So, if you’re moving to a very far-flung locale, you’ll want to wisely pack your carry-on to ensure you stay comfortable throughout the journey.
That’s why it’s so important to pack all of the medications and supplements you take in your carry-on bag. It might be worthwhile to ask your doctor for a prescription refill so you don’t have to worry about getting new medication as soon as you land in your new home.

Be sure you’ve read the international pet policies for your intended destination — many countries require vaccine records or pet passports that you’ll have to obtain well before flying, and you might need to register them with customs. Think of your pets’ comfort, as well! Do they need any medications or special food while you travel or once you land? If so, make sure it’s easy to find in the luggage you bring with you.

You’re moving abroad, which means you’ll miss the comforts of home — yes, even if you’re thrilled about your new adventure. So, consider which sentimental items you have to have with you and find room for them in your suitcase, too.
Everyone’s definition of a sentimental must-have will be different, of course. You might bring your favorite piece of your grandmother’s jewelry, while the next international traveler will have to pack the baby blanket they’ve had for decades. It’s worth a spot in your suitcase because it will make you feel close to home, even if you’re thousands of miles away.
