ITINERARY | 7 DAYS
(Day 0): Arrive in Reykjavik early in the morning and enjoy a stop at the beautiful Blue Lagoon first before heading into the city of Reykjavik. The geothermal water has a unique composition, featuring three active ingredients – Silica, Algae & Minerals. Leaving your skin silky smooth after you leave. Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland and the largest city in the country. Although it is the largest in the country, it’s still a small city and you can explore pretty much everything you want within a day. Highlights include visiting the first lighthouse built in Iceland, eating lunch at one of Iceland’s famous hot dog stands the baejarins beztu pylsur, and visiting the Hallgrimskirka (Iceland’s largest Church). In the evening, we will have the opportunity to visit a beautiful national hot springs and enjoy an evening under the stars! Accommodation: Reykjavik Hotel or similar
Day 1: Today wake up bright and early, enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast, and head out on a journey through the "Golden Circle". The Golden Circle offers the opportunity to see a meeting-point of the continental plates and sites of the ancient Icelandic Parliament, a spouting hot spring and a roaring waterfall. Visit the beautiful Pingviller National Park and check out all of the history behind this beautiful destination. We will check out the geysers at Haukadalu and Stokker, the Gullfoss waterfall, Haifoss Waterfall, Kerid Crater, and many more beautiful sights along our journey! Each of these locations are very famous throughout Iceland and offer beautiful opportunities to take stunning photos. We will end the evening with dinner at the Halldorskaggi Restaurant and enjoy some delicious Icelandic Pizzas and Burgers. Possibly even take a night hike to the Seljavallalaug pool, a picturesque man made hot pool in the mountains that the Iceland people bath in for it’s incredible health benefits. Day 3: Today you will enjoy a hearty breakfast at your hotel before continuing on to visit the beautiful Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls. Both waterfalls are 200 feet tall and is quite a sight to see. We will continue on to visit the Reynisfjara black sand beach with its beautiful overhanging salt columns and Dyrhlaey or “Door Island” and the famous Solheimasandur plane wreckage. In 1973, a United States Navy DC plane ran out of fuel and crashed on the black beach...the remains are still on the sand close to the area. Visit the Solheimajokull glacier and have the opportunity to walk around the beautiful village of Vik and eat some authentic Icelandic food at a famous restaurant called Sudur. In the afternoon hike through the Fjadrargliufur canyon, a beautiful canyon with numerous rivers running underneath it. This location is so pretty it looks like a fairytale! (weather permitting we may visit Skaftafell instead, where you will enjoy a nice hike to another beautiful waterfall and several glaciers, including Svartifoss – a beautiful waterfall with basalt columns). Next we will head towards Jokulasarlon, where you will get to see all of those beautiful pictures of chunks of glacier ice on the black sand beach with bright blue glaciers floating in the water. After sunset, head back to your hotel for a relaxing evening and another delicious dinner together. Accommodation: Hali Country Hotel or similar
Day 4: Enjoy a traditional Icelandic breakfast buffet at the hotel. Before setting out on your day. As we travel throughout the East Fjords we will drive through little towns like Djupivogur and Egilssaoir and you will get a taste for what local Iceland is really like. Enjoy delicious food and beautiful sights as we continue our journey through the East Fjords. Accommodation: Secluded Cottage
Day 5: Today we will continue traveling throughout the East Fjords we will experience several beautiful sights such as the Lagarfjot Glacier lake and Seydisfjodur Fjord, waking up earlier to catch the sunrise over the beautiful fjords. Afterwards we will continue onwards through what is known as the "wasteland of Iceland" or Modrudalsoraefi. This is an area of isloation, where only rows of mountains rise in the horizon. Eventually our path will lead us to one of the ultimate destinations in Iceland and will end our afternoon the most powerful waterfall in Europe - the Detifoss waterfall. In the evening we will have the opportunity to visit the geothermal areas near Lake Myvatn - including a soak in the thermal pools known as the Myvatn Nature Baths. Accommodation: Secluded Cottage
Day 6: After another delicious breakfast we will wake up early explore the nature reserve around Lake Myvatn hiking through lava formations and visiting underground baths and craters. Continue onwards through the Reykjadalur Valley to the impressive Godafoss waterfall, which means "Waterfall of the Gods". The Godafoss waterfall is considered to be one of the most beautiful in all of Iceland, and offers its audience a beautiful spectacle all year round. In the afternoon we will relax at a local coffee shop and enjoy some traditional Icelandic sweets before continuing onwards to the Eyjafjordur, ending in Iceland's second largest city - Akureyri. Day 6: This morning we will wake up and head straight for the sea, exploring the park of Eyjafjordur even further. This park is full of beautiful marine life, including a large population of humpback whales. Afterwards we will continue onwards to Saudarkrokur and many other small villages along our route including Hvammstangi, a town known for seals! As we venture further into the Western Fjords we will visit additional villages for for some stunning views – and then continue on to Isafjordur for even more stunning views! Spend the evening at the hotel and possibly get the opportunity to see the Northern Lights. You will end the evening and experience another Traditional Icelandic Dinner together. Day 7: Wake up first thing in the morning to catch the sunrise over the Borgarfjordur area. This is a popular location for photographers, as it is home to some of the most impressive hot springs & waterfalls - including Hraunfossar and Barnafossar. Have the opportunity to hike to the top of the mountains if you want. Next, head to the sea cliffs and enjoy your time exploring the sleepy coastal villages. This area is famous for their geology, trade history, geography and wildlife. Spend some time exploring Hvalfjordur Fjord before travelling back home to Reykajavik to prepare for your flights home the following day. Accommodation: Reykjavik Hotel
