The Middle East is a beautiful and unique part of the world. Israel, otherwise known as the Holy Land, is especially unique with its diversity and history. You are going to want to make sure you get done all you can while visiting!
However, it can be overwhelming to travel to a new place and know what is important to pack. Don’t worry! We have created the ultimate packing list for you to have everything you need for your trip to Israel.
Sun Protection
The sun is strong in Israel so you will want to make sure you are protected! Definitely pack some sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. Dehydration is something to also keep in mind with the heat and all the walking that you will be doing, so make sure to bring a water bottle that you can refill along the way as well.
Clothing
Again, it can get really hot in Israel, so make sure you bring light clothing. However, women will need to bring a scarf or shawl to wear in specific areas. The locals will be offended if you aren’t dressed modestly, so make sure you pack modest clothing to respect the culture. Along with modesty, don’t wear clothes with slogans or inappropriate messages on them.
On another note, it can get chilly as well so make sure to pack a light jacket just in case! If you are traveling there in the winter, be prepared with rain gear as well. You’ll want to have rain boots, a rain jacket, and an umbrella.
Bags
You will want to bring a small bag or fanny pack to carry around with you during the day. Don’t bring anything that would be inconvenient to carry around or to enter sacred places with, but you’ll want something to hold all of your items that is easy to carry around with you.
Shoes
You will definitely want to bring sandals to wear during water activities (speaking of, make sure to pack a swimsuit as well!). For your daily activities, however, make sure to bring good walking shoes. You will want them with all of the walking you will do!
First Aid
Definitely make sure to pack a first-aid kit! You will want band-aids in case you get blisters while walking around. You’ll also want to make sure to have any medication you may need just in case because pharmacies can be crazy in Israel. Be prepared for anything because it isn’t like America where there is a Walgreens on every corner to grab some last-minute stuff!
Food
The food is unique in the Middle East so if you have allergies or are a more picky eater, make sure to bring some snacks that you will be happy with. (Definitely try some Falafel while you’re there, though!)
Adapters
The outlets are different in the Middle East, so if you want to charge your electronic devices, make sure to get an adapter. If you are traveling from US or Canada, you will also want a converter as well. Israel uses a 220v system so this will require both an adapter and converter for some travelers, but you can find an adapter and converter in one!
Randoms
Bring a copy of your passport just in case. If you are traveling between different places they can be pretty strict on going back and forth. Better safe than sorry.
You may want to look into a credit card that doesn’t charge international fees for you to use while abroad, if you don’t have one already.
It is a popular thing to take some water from the Jordan River, so if you want to make sure to bring a travel size bottle for that keepsake.
There are some tunnels that are fun to explore, but you might want to bring a headlamp if you participate in those types of excursions!
Other than these few items that specifically address needs in Israel, you should be good to go with your usual packing list. We hope that this list has helped you and that you will have everything you need to have a great experience in Israel! Leave a comment if you have any other thoughts on things that one would need to travel to Israel with.
