On the tour, you will hear endless stories from Kukki about his fascinating life and work, and the general history of the region.

3. CLIMB THE GREAT WALL OF INDIA

The amazing Great Wall of India spans over 22 miles around the Kumbhalgarh Fort. Built over 500 years ago, it was created to protect over 300 ancient temples. This must-see is worth the strenuous climb to the top which takes on average around 40 minutes. Consider hiring a guide to learn the ins-and-outs of all of the rich history connected to this amazing UNESCO World Heritage Site.

4. VISIT THE TAJ MAHAL

Known to be one of the most visited attractions in the entire world, the Taj Mahal will capture you with its romantic beauty. Constructed between 1631-1648 by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife, this elaborate tomb highlights a combination of Indian, Persian, and Islamic styles. Wander through the white marble, gardens, extensive lawns, waterways, mosque and a small museum. Rent an audio guide or download one on your phone and tour at your own pace.

5. TAKE A RIDE ON A HOUSEBOAT IN KERALA

Hop on to a converted rice boat and enjoy the peaceful side of rural India. Sail through the backwaters of Kerala as you gaze at the abundant fertile soils, paddy fields, churches, temples, shady palms, and fish stocks. Also, plan time to explore Kerala’s colorful city of Kochi made up of a series of islands and peninsulas between the lakes and rivers coming in from the Arabian Sea. Check out multiple districts as each has its own distinct personality. Head over to Vypeen Island for its sandy beaches and Ernakulam for concrete city towers.

6. VOLUNTEER AT ANIMAL AID UNLIMITED

Located near the Badi Village, Animal Aid Unlimited is an organization that serves as a “rescue center, hospital, and sanctuary for injured and ill street animals”. Short and long term volunteers are welcomed here. The staff also offers tours for day visitors. Here you will find cows, donkeys, dogs, pigs, goats, and other animals receiving care from a dedicated team of volunteers, veterinarians, and paid local staff. Expect to pay around 350 INR ($5.00 USD) for a rickshaw from Udapaipur to the rescue center. Make sure to arrange your ride back beforehand as transportation is much more limited surrounding the center.

7. VIEW THE DUDHSAGAR FALLS

This four-tiered waterfall stands at 1,017 feet and is the tallest in all of India. Located in Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and Mollem National Park, getting to the falls can be a challenge for some. Your options to the falls include trekking 6 miles along a railway line or hiring a bike-taxi. The wet season is the best time to visit the falls as monsoon rains can fuel the waterfall to expand up to 100 feet wide, providing the most spectacular views. If you visit during the dry season when roads are more accessible, Jeep taxis will be able to take you to the watchtower which offers spectacular views.

8. SLEEP UNDER THE RAJASTHAN DESERT STARS

Don’t miss out on a camel safari into the Rajasthan desert. Camp out in tents under the millions of stars that shine down on the small desert villages. If you are lucky, your visit will align with the Pushkar camel fair where you will be able to witness the chaotic and colorful annual camel trading event.  While in the area, don’t forget to visit the pink city of Jaisalmer which offers the oldest still-inhabited fort in the world. Stroll through the sights, sounds, and smells of this compact India town.

9. RELAX ON PALOLEM BEACH

For the ideal Indian beach experience, hit up Palolem Beach. Embrace the low-key vibes, white sand, blue waters, and towering palm trees. Here you’ll find perfect swimming spots and places to watch the daily stunning sunsets. This beach is welcoming for all types of travelers: couples, independent backpackers, partiers, and relaxers. Choose to embrace the variety of food, nightlife, water activities and selection of surrounding day trips including snorkeling, canyons, and waterfalls.

10. SPOT INDIA’S ‘BIG FIVE’

India is home to an immense range of wildlife but is best known for these five big cats that call this country home: snow leopards, Bengal tigers, Asiatic lions, clouded leopards, and Indian leopards. If you head to the right place, your chances of seeing all 5 are quite high. Check out Bandhavgarh, Ranthambore, Kanha, Pench, Satpura and Corbett national parks for tigers. Snow leopards are best spotted in the winter when they descend from their mountain homes to search for food. Clouded leopards are known to be the evolutionary link between small and big cats. Spot them at the Kanchenjunga Biosphere Reserved in Sikkim. If looking to spot an Asiatic lion, you must head to the Sasan Gir National Park as this is the only location in the country they can be found.
