10 Reasons To Visit Kauai

Lush mountain coasts, world-class snorkeling, secluded beaches, a red rock canyon, and so much more. Kauai is the perfect island with a mix of beaches, mountains, and plenty of in-between to keep every traveler oohing and awing. Planning a trip to Hawaii can be stressful. With different islands to choose from and thousands of activities available, we understand that creating the perfect vacation can be hard! You should highly consider the Garden Island and here is a list of 10 reasons why:

Na Pali Coast

A picturesque scene from every angle, the Na Pali Coast is unlike any other on Earth. Kauai’s signature feature boasts high mountain ridges sandwiched between tropical island valleys all stretched across 17 miles along the Pacific Ocean. The coast can be explored in many different ways. Seeing the coast by boat is a popular option with fantastic snorkel conditions and even better photo opportunities. Boat tours run year-round, though winter months tend to have rougher seas. Helicopter and plane tours give travelers an incredible aerial view and provide a luxurious option.

Na+Pali+Coast

Our favorite way to enjoy the Na Pali is hiking along the Kalalau Trail, which the Huffington Post considers to be “the most incredible hike in America”. The trail leads hikers along the majestic coast and is the best way to access the stunning beaches and waterfalls Na Pali has to offer. One of Kauai’s best waterfalls is Hanakapiai Falls. This jungle oasis is only accessible via the Kalalau Trail. Whether you see the Na Pali Coast by boat, helicopter, or your own two legs, it is sure to take your breath away at every turn. Secret Falls

Need more adventure? Look no further than the Wailua River. Rent a kayak or paddleboard and make your way up the calm waters to this jungle hike. Dock your transportation and hike 20 minutes to this waterfall in paradise. Plunging 100 feet into a nice swimming pool, Secret Falls is a perfect half-day trip for all ages.

Puka Dogs

Hawaii does hot dogs differently, especially on Kauai. Puka Dogs creates a fusion of tropical flavors that leaves you wanting more. Imagine a hot dog stuffed in a bread sleeve with your own blend of sauces. Sauce options include passion fruit mustard and pineapple, mango, banana, and coconut relish. The unique combinations make for an exciting and delicious meal!

Polihale Beach

Make sure your four-wheel drive is working properly before heading to this beach! Polihale Beach lays on the west side of the island. Its remote location gives visitors the isolated feeling of having the island to yourself. While not the best for swimming, the long stretch of sand is ideal for long walks and shell hunting. The beauty is enough to convince anyone to take on the sometimes rough road.

Jojo’s Shave Ice

Snow cones don’t exist in Kauai, it’s pronounced shave ice. The Hawaiian shave ice is an art form and nobody does it better than Jojos. Jojo’s Shave Ice has been a Kauai staple for years. Fresh macadamia nut ice cream goes on the bottom, topped with snowflake-like ice shavings on top. Choose between dozens of tropical homemade flavors and don’t forget to top it off with the haupia cream topping.

Poipu Beach

On the south shore of Kauai, Poipu Beach is perfect for families seeking calm waves and golden sand. The snorkeling is fantastic and a great place for beginners. Bring your camera as Sea Turtles and Monk Seals can often be found on the shores. Poipu is an awesome location to kick back and soak in the vivid sunsets over the ocean!

Waimea Canyon

Also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea Canyon is a red rock island delight in Kauai. The windy mountain road up the canyon from Waimea makes you forget you are on a tropical island. The lookouts serve jaw-dropping views as the valley floor is thousands of feet below. Continue to the end of the road and peer down to the ocean to see a different view of the Na Pali Coast from the Kalalau Lookout.  Make time to check out one of the many hikes in the area like the Cliff Trail which takes you to the 800-foot Waipoo Falls. Biking and bird watching are other fun ways to experience the wonderous canyon. Experience the canyon on one of our adventurous tours!

Luau Kalamaku

No Hawaiian vacation is complete without a luau. Dive into the Kauai culture at the Kilohana Plantation as you experience an authentic luau. Luau Kalamaku includes traditional Kalua Pork, Poi, and Haupia. Along with the feast, enjoy Hula dancers, knife dancing, and classic Hawaiian music.

Mount Waialeale

Arguably one of the wettest places on Earth, Mount Waialeale is a monstrous crater whose heart beats in the center of Kauai. Over 5000 feet in elevation, this waterfall haven is extremely rural. It can only be seen from a helicopter tour (as Kauai weather permits) or an almost impassable (and dangerous) hike called the Blue Hole. This crater may be hard to reach but the surrounding area provides fantastic experiences. The Keahua Arboretum is a beautiful picnic spot. From there, head just down the dirt road and find the original Jurassic Park gates! Locals in the area can lead you to hidden waterfalls, swimming holes, and rope swings that are all connected by a series of old irrigation ditches. With experiences like these, rugged Kauai provides special one-on-one time with Mother Nature!

Hideaway Beach

This hidden gem is one of the highlights of Kauai! Tucked away below the ritz of Princeville, a short hike down a cliff brings you to this Instagram-ready sanctuary. Spotless white sand shaded by large Hawaiian trees leaves plenty of room for sunbathers and shade seekers. The Caribbean-like clear water at Hideaway makes for spectacular snorkeling and prime swimming in the summer months. Rock cliffs hovering above the water create an epic setting for sunset yoga. Lay down your beach towel and stay awhile as this Hideaway provides a true place to hideaway.
